Infopoint







The project is based on the idea of organic space. Inspired by cellular systems, the Infopoint is an assembly of cells-functions, wrapped in a formalised container. The organism is generated by software that uses a mathematical algorithm – the Voronoi diagram - a special kind of decomposition of a metric space determined by distances to a specified discrete set of points in the space.




This diagrammatic subdivision of three-dimensional space has two objectives: structural optimisation and characterisation, coherent with the materials selected; uniformity of physical space, without hierarchies or privileged directions: the cells are related by a form of structural and functional ecology. The single parts are made of flat, alveolar aluminium panels and minimum waste is guaranteed by specialised ‘nesting’ software. The panels are cut, folded and bolted together (dry assembly), creating a lightweight and extraordinarily rigid structure that is easy to set-up/dismantle.
















The Infopoint communicates continuously with its environment via a back-lit barrisol skin, which also features rear projections. By day it is a simple, opaque volume; by night a charming expression of colours, lights and projections, capturing and attracting attention in the large public plaza. Its partially covered, partially uncovered 92 mq of floor area, entirely clad in recycled rubber, create a large, flexible display space. The loggia-dehor, with its coffee bar, offers visitors an ideal point to stop, chat and relax. Wireless technologies, projections and interactive video screens, inside and outside the structure, allow the press and public to access information through a system that extends beyond the perimeters of the Infopoint itself. The pavillion is entirely recyclable.
